Hours after a 22-year-old woman was murdered the Delhi Police arrested her husband and his co-worker.
“The accused has been identified as Shahden Mallik, 23, and his co-worker Muhammad Asif, 19, who worked as scrap dealers in Delhi’s north-east district,” a senior Police official says.
The Jafrabad Police Station received a call regarding the incident and when officials reached the spot, the deceased, Fatima, was found lying in a pool of blood. She was stabbed in the back and her throat was slit open, the official says.
“During the investigation, it was revealed that the duo murdered her with a knife and then fled the spot along with her phone and other IDs,” he tells.
Fatima and Shahden had been residing in the home as tenants for one and a half months, according to investigation. “Suspicion arose from Shahden’s disappearance and his parents were questioned at their house in Mustafabad,” Sanjay Sain, DCP of the north-east region, says.
Shahden was married to Fatima a few months ago and lived away from his family as his family was against their marriage. However, Shahden later developed a suspicion that she was “in an extramarital relationship with someone”.
The police state that Shahden allegedly confessed his crime and the involvement of Arif in the said incident.
“The increased suspicion and strains in their relationship reached a point when Shahden decided to murder his wife,” the police officer summarised his confession.
“His family, living at Mustafabad, was questioned and Shahden was caught with the help of call records and the location of his mobile phone. His disappearance has already increased the suspicion and his revelations during the interrogation were a nod of confirmation,” added the police officer.
