Over 7 lakh passports issued in Delhi in 2025, Lok Sabha told

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday informed the Lok Sabha that eight passport processing centres are currently operational in Delhi under the Regional Passport Office (RPO), comprising three Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) and five Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs).

In a written reply to an unstarred question by BJP MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh said the RPO Delhi issued 7,20,685 passports in 2023, 6,92,606 in 2024 and 7,00,125 in 2025. During the same period, 3,61,008, 3,55,839 and 3,65,646 passports, respectively, were cancelled. The ministry clarified that existing passports are cancelled and returned to applicants as part of the passport reissue process.

The minister said the government has taken several measures to make passport services more accessible and citizen-friendly. These include expanding the Passport Seva network through PSKs and POPSKs, enabling online applications and appointment bookings through the Passport Seva Portal, and providing services through mobile applications.

He added that the passport system is integrated with the Department of Posts and police authorities to streamline passport issuance. The ministry has also implemented the “Apply Anywhere in India” scheme, allowing applicants to submit passport applications at any PSK or POPSK across the country, besides deploying Passport Mobile Vans to provide services in rural, remote, hilly and underserved areas.
