Rain predicted in Delhi

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that Delhi is expected to experience a fresh spell of light rain and cloudy weather over the next six to seven days, which will help keep temperatures under control, making a heatwave unlikely during this time.

On Wednesday, Delhi’s primary weather station, the Safdarjung Observatory, recorded a minimum temperature of 18.4 degrees Celsius, which was five notches below normal.

Meanwhile, the maximum temperature is anticipated to be around 37 degrees Celsius.

On Tuesday, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 34.9 degrees Celsius, which was three notches below normal.

The IMD predicts that a fresh wet spell is expected over the western Himalayan region from April 26, and over the plains of northwest India from April 28, influenced by a new western disturbance. Over the next six to seven days, Delhi can expect a generally cloudy sky and light rain.

The maximum temperature is likely to drop to at least 32 degrees Celsius by the end of April. The IMD had previously predicted that the summer season would experience above-normal temperatures and more heatwave days in large parts of the country.

However, while a heatwave swept through some regions in early and mid-April, multiple weather systems have brought thunderstorms, hail storms, and rains in several parts of the country, pulling temperatures down. As of Tuesday, the Met office has reported that a heatwave is unlikely in the country over the next five days. (With inputs from PTI)
