Red Fort Blast | NSG, NIA, FSL, begin investigation: Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said The National Security Guard (NSG), National Investigation Agency (NIA), and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams have begun a thorough investigation, following the major blast at the Red Fort.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed that the blast took place around 7 PM at the Subhash Marg traffic signal, when a Hyundai i20 car exploded near the historic Red Fort. “The blast injured some pedestrians and damaged nearby vehicles. Preliminary reports indicate that some people have lost their lives,” Shah said in an official statement.

He added that within ten minutes of receiving the alert, teams from the Delhi Police Crime Branch and Special Branch reached the scene. “The National Security Guard (NSG), National Investigation Agency (NIA), and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams have begun a thorough investigation. Orders have been given to review footage from all nearby CCTV cameras,” Shah said.

The Home Minister also confirmed that he had spoken directly with Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha and the Special Branch in-charge, both of whom are present at the site. “We are exploring all possibilities and will conduct a comprehensive investigation, taking every angle into account. All findings will be shared with the public,” he assured.

Amit Shah further said he would visit the blast site shortly and also meet the injured at the hospital.

Security agencies have cordoned off the area, and forensic experts are examining the car and surrounding debris to determine the nature and cause of the explosion. A high alert has been declared across the national capital.

At least eight people were killed and 24 others injured in a powerful car explosion near the Red Fort Metro Station in Delhi on Monday evening, officials said. The blast, which occurred near Gate Number 1 of the metro station, also triggered a fire that engulfed three to four nearby vehicles, according to the Delhi Fire Department.

The injured were rushed to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital, where Medical Superintendent Dr. Suresh Kumar told ANI that “Eight of them died before reaching the hospital. Three are seriously injured, and one is in stable condition.”

Following the explosion, a high alert was declared across the national capital. Multiple teams of the Delhi Police, including the Special Cell, reached the site soon after the incident. A total of seven fire tenders were deployed to control the flames.
