A five-year-old and nine others were rescued after a major fire broke out on the first floor of a residential building in southeast Delhi’s New Friends Colony area on Tuesday, an official of the Delhi Fire Services said.
A call regarding the fire was received at 5.14 pm from a house in Taimoor Nagar, near a gurdwara on Mathura Road, he said.
“All 10 residents trapped on the first floor — six men, three women and a five-year-old child — were safely rescued by the fire personnel,” the officer said, adding that no injuries were reported.
He further said six fire tenders, including two water tenders, three water bowsers and a turntable ladder, were rushed to the spot.
“The first fire unit reached the location at 5.25 pm and found flames emanating from domestic articles stored in a room on the first floor of the building, which comprises a ground floor and three upper storeys,” he said.
He added that all 10 people were trapped on the first floor due to the smoke and fire.
“The fire was brought under control within 10 minutes, at around 5.35 pm, and the firefighting operation was concluded by 5.45 pm,” the official said.
A senior police officer said that a team was immediately rushed to the spot.
“We are investigating the entire matter and the cause of the fire,” the officer said.
