Two children and a married couple tragically lost their lives due to suffocation following a massive fire in a residential building in Delhi’s Shahdara area early Thursday morning, authorities confirmed.
The victims, identified as Manoj (30), his wife Suman (28), and their daughters aged five and three, succumbed to suffocation during the incident.
“We received information from the hospital that four individuals, including two children and a married couple, perished due to suffocation. Further investigation is underway,” said a senior police officer.
Emergency services were promptly dispatched after receiving a call around 5:20 am regarding a significant fire in the Shastri Nagar vicinity of Shahdara. The Delhi Fire Services, alongside local police teams, four fire tenders, ambulances, and PCR vans, swiftly responded to the scene.
According to authorities, the fire originated in the building’s parking lot, with smoke quickly spreading throughout the premises. Despite the narrow street, fire officials managed to contain and extinguish the flames.
Subsequently, a thorough search of each floor was conducted, with three men, four women, and two children being transported to Hedgewar hospital for treatment. (With inputs from PTI)
