Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday announced the payment of pension dues of the retired employees of Delhi Transport Corporation.
“I have brought good news for all the retired elders of DTC. The outstanding pension has been credited to your accounts,” said Kejriwal in a video on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Last week, Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot released a statement on social media, stating that the funds will be transferred to pensioners’ accounts within two to three days. This follows a Rs 650 crore grant allocated to DTC by Delhi government’s finance department.
DTC’s retired employees were regularly demanding their pension from the Delhi government for the past one and half year. Along with the pension money, the Delhi CM sent a special message to DTC employees.
“I would like to address the old and ageing DTC employees. I know you are very angry with me. Your anger is justified. You have been finding it difficult to get a pension for the past one to one-and-a-half years. When we came to power, we started giving you all pensions from the budget of the state government. You managed to get a pension every month, you never faced any problem,” he said.
He laid the blame for the delay on the Central government.
“I would like to apologise for the problems you have been facing for the last one to one-and-a-half years. You know how the Central government is trying to create hurdles in every work of ours. Whatever work we are trying to do, it is creating hurdles for it. I am trying my best in every possible way to get things done.”
Kejriwal added in Friday’s address that the outstanding pension has reached the accounts by Thursday.
“I am very happy to inform you that whatever pension you had pending, reached your account yesterday. Whatever complaints you have had, I take responsibility for them. I will change things. I am your own. I am like your son.”
