Italian connect

What: Organised in collaboration with the Italian Embassy Cultural Centre, four plays

of Pippo Delbono, well-known Italian theatre actor and director are now available online. Presented by the Emilia Romagna Teatro Fondazione, Italy, each of the plays feature leading actors from theatres in Modena, Cesena, Vignola and Castelfranco Emilia. The plays will be presented over the next four weeks and can be accessed through Vimeo links. The festival opens with After the Battle (Dopo la battaglia) this 110-minute play is an interdisciplinary work combining theatre, music and dance, and forging new territory in the career of the director. Delbono stretches the boundaries of his theatrical language and deepens his investigation of the relationship between body and text, action and sound. Stemming from his firm belief that people on the margins can understand the truth better than “normative” people, he incorporates these performers in his theatre groups and works, weaving a subtle and unique human fabric.

When: 22 July – 2 August

Where: Website of India International Centre

Monochromatic tones

What: The series ‘Sleeping in the Forest’ features British-era rest houses in the Himalayan jungles taken by photographer Dileep Prakash. Presented by Photoink, the black-and-white images of moonlit forests and bungalows is limned by an intense otherworldliness. The prints (all Untitled, 2007–2016) loom large, their size befitting the architectural and arboreal solidity on display. These bungalows made an impression on Prakash when he stayed in them as a child, and he has been photographing them for years, imbuing his images with a melancholic texture. Medium-long shots of atmospheric landscapes frame a high-contrast theatre, the use of long exposure causing firefly-like light streaks of various shapes. The works can be viewed on the official website of Art In Touch.

When: 17 July – 7 September
