Spiritual connect
What: An abstract expressionist who discovers herself through her work, artist Dilraj Kaur paints her emotions on the canvas with childlike playfulness, while listening to spiritual songs. This is portrayed in the works of her upcoming solo exhibition, Anant ki Aur. The colours and textures reveal themselves to her according to her emotions. Her connection to nature has become stronger with this form of meditation, which makes her feel peaceful and content.
When: May 13 – 22
Where: Triveni Kala Sangam, 205, Tansen Marg

Plus sized

What: For the past 15 years, this filmmaker has been clinically obese. Does this battle with the bulge have deeper roots and scars on her personality? Captured beautifully in the 52-minute film, The F Word is a journey of self-discovery, discrimination, conformity, stereotyping and the filmmaker’s negotiation with a bad body image. Director Saba Rehman was born and brought up in Delhi in a home that got her acquainted with the dualities and complications in her identity, a perfect breeding ground for stories that need to be told. Catch her story in the monthly screenings of Kriti film club.
When: May 4 (5 pm)
Where: A-15, Tara Apartments, Alaknanda

Celebrating moves

What: Showcasing the finest of choreography, costume and music through scripts that have survived through generations, the Kendra Dance Festival is back. Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra presents Meera — her glory lay in her ability to articulate through poetry, the turbulence that transpired in her life. Her life seems to be a metaphor for most women, where centuries later, Meera’s name lives on. Wherever Meera went, she spread the message of liberation and urged an inner awakening through her poetry. Another performance features Malaysian Ramli Ibrahim’s excellence as choreographer, dancer and costume designer, who translates the Odissi dance form into an intoxicating celebration with his troupe of artists, and transforms it into a contemporary crescendo.
When: May 1- 8
Where: 1, Copernicus Marg, Mandi House
