Neeta Mathur
Classical vocalist Neeta Mathur is all set to perform at India International Centre on July 20.
While talking to Patriot, Neeta Mathur revealed that her musical journey commenced at a young age, with her mother, Uma Mathur, serving as her guiding light.
Deeply rooted in the rich heritage of Indian classical music, she shared that she underwent extensive training in Guru Shishya Parampara. Her dedication and perseverance led her to master the art of Khayal singing.
Moreover, Neeta Mathur’s musical pursuits ventured beyond the realms of Khayal singing. She devoted herself to the study of rare compositions, Ragas, and sacred padas of the “Pushti Marg” a devotional tradition within the Vaishnava sect.
Her exceptional musical prowess has been showcased in music concerts, including her recent telecast of the National Programme of Music on Delhi Doordarshan’s National Channel.
She is recognised as an approved artiste (A grade) of All India Radio and Doordarshan, Delhi, and has enthralled audiences in various concerts and music festivals both in India and abroad. Notably, she has participated in events such as Haridas Sangeet Sammelan (Mumbai, Vrindavan), Sahitya Kala Parishad’s “Yuva Mahotsav” (Delhi), India International Centre (Delhi), India Habitat Centre (Delhi), and many more.
While Neeta Mathur’s expertise lies in Khayal singing, her repertoire extends to encompass Haveli Sangeet, Raagmala, Tarana, and other traditional classical forms. With over three decades of contribution to Hindustani Classical Music, she has showcased her mastery of both the theory (Shastra) and performance (Prayog) aspects of this ancient art form.
Beyond her accomplishments as a vocalist, Neeta Mathur is also an author. She has penned books such as “Hindustani Sangeet Mein Holi Gayan,” “Shastriya Sangeet Ke Bahuayami Stambh Pandit Gokulotsavji Maharaj” and “Shastriya Sangeet Ke Surya”.
