Art Alive Gallery is hosting a solo exhibition by artist Jayasri Burman, titled ‘The Whisper of Water, The Song of Stars’, from January 18 to February 28. The exhibition explores themes of nature, mythology, and femininity, inviting viewers to experience the artist’s work through cosmic connections, water bodies, and landscapes. A new publication will also be released alongside the exhibition, offering further insight into this collection of artworks.
Jayasri Burman’s works combine traditional mythology with contemporary issues, focusing on the power of women and the beauty of nature. Her paintings go beyond simple depictions of mythological themes, incorporating personal experiences and deeper emotions while connecting these ancient stories to the present. Her use of cowries and shells adds cultural significance to the work, symbolising the ocean, life, and heritage.
Burman’s paintings are known for their intricate lines, subtle colours, and depth, with this new collection showing a shift from her earlier figurative works to a more abstract, contemporary style. The combination of materials such as river soil, shells, and cowries adds texture and meaning, while her evolving artistic language reflects her ongoing journey with spirituality and personal growth.

“The change in my work is influenced by my spiritual journey. The impressions I’ve carried since childhood have shaped these paintings. Through the motif of shells and cowries, I wanted to explore unconscious thoughts while staying connected to modern issues,” said Jayasri Burman.
Sunaina Anand, Founder-Director of Art Alive Gallery, shared, “This exhibition shows Jayasri Burman’s exploration of different mediums, focusing on ecology, femininity, and cultural symbolism. The exhibition marks a new direction in her creative work, and we hope the audience will appreciate this shift in her art.”
