Bikaner House will present Art in Motion, a group exhibition featuring Delhi-based artists Ashoka Sarkar, Rekha Jaggi and Shashi Kumar Paul, from December 19 to 22. The exhibition will be on view at Kalamkar Gallery, Bikaner House, with a preview on December 18.
Bringing together three distinct practices, Art in Motion traces how contemporary urban life, natural rhythms and shifting landscapes shape artistic expression. Each artist approaches the idea of movement—physical, emotional or environmental—through their own material language.
Sarkar’s works explore the layered stories embedded within urban architecture. Through vibrant panels, textured surfaces and abstract compositions, she reimagines stairs, stones, trees and rivers as elements of an evolving cityscape. Her paintings highlight the duality of metropolitan life—the urgency of its bustle and the quiet beauty of its light and shadows.
Jaggi, who lives and works in Gurugram, examines the transformation of a rapidly changing city. Her grey-toned paintings, built from rhythmic strokes, reflect on what is visible and what fades with urban development. By placing natural forms such as glaciers and lakes alongside bridges and human traces, she creates a contemplative continuum between memory, nature and the cosmos.
Paul’s sculptures introduce a contrasting sense of fluidity and dynamism. Working with fibre and bronze, he shapes forms that merge strength with grace, often appearing in mid-motion. His sculptural language emphasises balance, freedom and an enduring search for expressive movement.
Together, the exhibition captures the shifting forces of contemporary environments and the ways in which artists respond to rapid change through form, rhythm and material exploration.
