Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi hosts group show of artists

A vibrant group exhibition of Chandigarh’s young and senior artists is currently on display at the All India Fine Arts and Craft Society (AIFACS). Organised by the Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi, the exhibition is open daily from 11 AM to 7 PM and will be on view until January 23. The showcase brings together a diverse array of artistic talent, blending established names with emerging voices.

The exhibition opened on January 17, 2025, with Padma Shri Biman B. Das, Chairman of AIFACS and former Principal of the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Kolkata, inaugurating the event. Eminent artist and former Principal of the Government College of Art, Chandigarh, Prem Singh, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.

“Art is the nation’s most precious heritage,” said an Akademi representative, echoing Lyndon B. Johnson’s famous words. “It is in our works of art that we reveal to ourselves and to others the inner vision which guides us as a nation. This exhibition is an effort to connect Chandigarh’s artistic spirit with a broader audience.”

The exhibition features a stellar lineup of senior artists, including Mohinder Tuli, Vijay Bakshi, Vijay Ozo, Satwant Singh, Prem Kapoor, Madan Lal, Tej Bans Singh Jauhar, Davinder Singh, Bhupinder Brar, Sadhna Sangar, S. Raj Kumar, Jaskanwal, Ram Pratap Verma, D. S. Kapoor, Parmod Arya, Mahesh Prajapati, Nirmal Prakash, Anand Shinde, Viney Vadhera, Surinder Dhami, Ishwar Dayal, Prabhinder Lal, Gurdeep Dhiman, Vishal Bhatnagar, Anand Sharma, Rajesh Sharma, Ranjan Kumar Malik, and Satwant Singh Sumail. These seasoned artists share the stage with a significant number of promising newcomers, adding fresh energy and diverse perspectives to the exhibition.

Speaking about the Akademi’s vision, an organisers said, “We are dedicated to creating opportunities for local artists to showcase their talent beyond Chandigarh. This exhibition allows them to share their creative urge with audiences from far and wide.”

The show, which has drawn art lovers and connoisseurs alike, serves as a bridge between Chandigarh’s artistic heritage and the wider art community of the nation.
