Music in moonlight

What: Immerse yourself in a specially crafted evening of music with the season finale of ‘Under the Banyan Tree on a Full Moon Night’. The Baithak-style evenings, where moonlight and music blend to recreate the poetic charm of traditional musical gatherings, offer audiences an intimate experience with the like-minded and an opportunity to engage with the musicians. The final edition celebrates the world of music with ‘Musical Mélange’ – a unique aural experience that seeks to blend the different flavours and strands of Indian classical, roots as well as world music. ‘The Barmer Boys’ seamlessly fuse Rajasthani Gypsy Folk with beatboxing, carrying forward the centuries-old musical traditions of the Manganiyars. Followed by ‘Anirudh Varma Collective: The Full Moon Ensemble’, which has been curated specially for the series finale, features a host of artistes – Ahsaan Ali (Sarangi), Pavithra Chari (Hindustani Vocalist) and Rohit Prasanna (Flute).

Playful performance

What: BYOU-P” Bring your own unease and play. This is the theme of the performance ‘Hum Honge Kamyaab’ which is an outcome of the Winter Performance Studies Workshop held at Danza Performing Arts. “Unease” was the key word to begin their creative process. We all live with immense unease these days at both personal and collective level. How do we keep our head above it and play with it creatively instead of getting burdened with it? They chose to find an uneasy situation from our daily life and bring it under choreographic investigative lens. Kids, adults, professionals and amateur dancers are working together to find answers to their own unease in this playful performance along with a musician.

When: December 12 (2pm and 5pm)

Where: Danza Performing Arts, Gurgaon

Needle and thread

What: Influenced by the same instincts in life as her art, artist Pranati Panda describes her decision to wait to showcase her work on this scale by analogising herself as a river, having flowed with time to build a strong physical, emotional and mental connect to her work. Her recent works are on display at the exhibition ‘Speaking Threads’. In this exhibition Pranati’s expresses herself eclectically – through depictions of landscape and human organs, in sculpture, in prints, in video, in small, circular paintings she fondly refers to as ‘time pieces’. The meditation of her practice, much like knitting, finds meaning in the labour of the process, in the search for something without necessitated conclusion.

When: December 5 – January 15 (10am – 6pm)

Where: Vadehra Art Gallery D-53 Defence Colony

Diverse views

What: A culmination of the Curatorial Intensive South Asia 2019 Program which brought together fellows from Iran, India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka, Khoj International Artists’ Association is bringing 13 curated exhibitions. It aims to develop a diversity of perspectives on the medium of the exhibition in South Asia and Iran and to provide both a structured and an experimental inquiry into the possibilities of curatorial practice today. In these thirteen exhibitions, one will encounter worlds made of memories, identities, pasts, erasures, and even humor. Effervescent worlds that emanate from technological caverns, worlds carved out of personal memories and public histories, worlds tarnished by violence.

When: December 14 – 20 (11am – 7pm)

Where: India International Centre, 40 Max Mueller Marg
