QUESTIONING REALITY

What: A result of more than twenty years of exploration of Asian cultures, here’s an exhibition titled, ‘Thread through Asia’.  Not turning his back on the world of abstract-expressionism, street art and punk rock from which he comes, Artist Guyseika confronts and mixes different world views in order to create a mythical universe neighbouring and questioning our ordinary reality.

CENTENARY CELEBRATION

What: Celebrating hundred years of master painter and sculptor from Ecuador, Oswaldo Guayasamín, here’s an exhibition of lithographic prints. The works on view represents three periods of Maestro Guayasamín’s artistic trajectory: The Trail of Tears; the Age of Rage; and The Tenderness. Lending his voice to the downtrodden masses, the works on view represent the struggle, pain and suffering as well as happiness, beauty and hope. Guayasamín was born in Quito in 1919, so as a way to celebrate this important occasion and recognize the great contribution of Guayasamín, the Embassy of Ecuador has brought to India this exhibition.

TRACING RHYTHM

What: ‘Katha Khatak’ is the journey of kathak from the time it began. This journey will be showcased by the students of Pravaha – an academy imparting knowledge of Indian classical dance and music. As the name suggests Kathak is a way to tell a story through dance. This ancient dance form has undergone changes with history – Hindu rulers as well as the Moguls were custodians of this art. From telling stories of the Hindu Gods through dance during the Hindu rule, Kathak became the dance of the courtesans during the Muslim period. And with every period the dance has evolved and now has become a part of the film industry too.

FOLK FESTIVAL

What: A time of bonhomie and bonding, singing and eating together around a bonfire – Lohri celebrations are here. Sunanda Sharma from the Benaras Gharana will bring alive the traditional folklore and rites of passage of Punjab, followed by Punjabi Sufi singer, Rekha Raj . This Lohri, experience the feminine graces of the festival that celebrate the end of an agrarian cycle and look forward to a year of hope and happiness.
