FRENCH CONNECT

What: French artist Michel Testard’s is back with a new exhibition- ‘Reminiscence of India, past and present’ –which builds upon and expands on his lasting fascination for India. Michel is a travelling artist, a writer, and a sitar player. The exhibition presents the various themes he has introduced to the Indian audience- Forts and Ruins, People of India, Indian Music, Landscapes, The Indian Rajahs and Nawabs – with a touch of nostalgia exploring India’s past and present in inspired narratives that are both moving and piquant and are rendered in figurative and abstract styles alike. Michel dwells this time a bit more on present India, inquiring on our urban development with ‘Smart or Mad Cities’ and metaphors on pollution, with a take on ‘Pollution Masks’.

VIBRANT HUES

What: A group show comprising of fourteen artists from all across India, Sanchit Art presents a group exhibition by renowned artists Paresh Maity, Satish Gujral, Manoj Dutta, K.Laxma Goud, Neeraj Goswami and many others. The show aims to investigate different materials that artists will engage with to explore their subjectivity and expressions. Among the highlights is a rare acrylic and oil abstract by Paresh Maity from 1990. This was when he briefly experimented with abstracts, which was a means for him to remove the limitations of painting a landscape. Another is the masterful paintings of village life by K. Laxma Goud, which are an interesting combination of village nostalgia. Special highlight is a pair of exquisite bronze sculptures by Satish Gujral. Also, the vibrant pieces created by Manoj Dutta, depicts the pictorial idiom of simple concepts with fantasy elements.

CELEBRATING CRAFTS

What: With over 80 craft groups and craft entrepreneurs selling their products at a discounted rate, Dastkar’s Bonanza 2020 is back. Visitors can choose from a wide and mixed variety of handcrafted apparel, home decor, accessories and more brought in by artisans, and craft entrepreneurs working on ground with artisans. Some of the crafts which are available includes Pashmina and other Kashmiri textile crafts like Ari, Sozni and Crewel embroidery, the famous Vankar weaves with Kutchi embroidery on stoles and shawls as well as Bandhani. For the upcoming summer season, it also features hand block printed garments like bagru, dabu and ajrakh printing on sarees, kurtas and yardages. applique and patchwork, recycled fabric work for the conscious consumers, various weaves like ikat, kotpad, chanderi and maheshwari, embroideries like kutchi work, kantha, sozni, and other textile crafts.
