An art exhibition titled “The Earth My Home” will take place at Gallery Art Positive from January 10 to 16. Curated by Georgina Maddox, a Delhi-based art critic and curator, the show brings together the work of nine women artists from India and Australia, showcasing innovative, eco-friendly artworks that highlight the connection between creativity and nature.

The exhibition is the outcome of the Himalayan Natural Art Course, a residential program held in June 2024 at the Mountain-Wind Campus in Bhuira village, Himachal Pradesh. Facilitated by Australian Wild Art artist Bettina Van Haeften, the course introduced participants to techniques like eco-dyeing using Shibori and Wild Art, which emphasizes creating art using natural pigments and brushes made from materials like leaves, stones, and bark sourced from the surrounding forests.

The artworks displayed in the exhibition are distinctive because they are made entirely using natural, self-made paints, dyes, and tools. Only paper, canvas, and natural cotton cloth were used as base materials, making this exhibition a unique and sustainable initiative.

The participating artists include Bettina Van Haeften, whose work reflects her deep connection with nature through textiles and slow art practices; Alka Mathur, whose mixed-media pieces are inspired by the parched landscapes of Rajasthan; and Georgina Maddox, who explores themes of gender and marginalisation through her work. Other contributors include Pooja Hada, known for her vibrant canvases inspired by Indian cultural motifs, and artists Shalini Ghosh, Jasmeet Khurana, Sharmila Gupta, Nishi Jauhar, and Ritu-Ngapnon Varuni.

A portion of the proceeds from the exhibition will be donated to the Himalayan Rilung Foundation, which supports hands-on learning and environmental conservation in the Himalayas. This collaboration between art and ecological awareness not only highlights the importance of sustainability but also offers visitors a fresh and meaningful perspective on artistic expression.
