Visitors thronged the Central Vista Avenue on Friday, a day after it was inaugurated, along with the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi.
At the heart of India Gate, the 28 feet high statue is carved on granite stone and has been installed at the same place where the hologram of the statue was unveiled on Parakram Diwas on 23 January.
Both the venues were opened for public visit on Friday.
The three kilometer wide Kartavya Path is equipped with all the basic facilities, including 64 toilets for women, 32 for men and 10 Shulabh Shauchalyas. For the ease of visitors, an underpass has been built to cross the road.
The revamped lawns with canals and a drone show have emerged as a big tourist attraction.
The stretch was almost deserted in the afternoon but crowd began pouring in by evening. Quickly the ambiance turned gala as people arrived with their friends and family as the day progressed and chants of ‘Vande Mataram’ reverberated.
People were also seen video calling their loved ones to present the views to them.
Multiple cultural events like folk dance were performed and the fountain illuminated with tricolour made for a perfect eye-catching spot.
In the evening, Bose’s statue became the center of attraction. A total of 205 drones performed a series of 8 different shapes lasting 15 minutes. It was a perfect amalgamation of advanced technologies mixed with patriotism.
