As the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign under the aegis of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ kicked off and quickly picked up pace on Saturday, the students of Chandigarh University created a world record for the largest human image of a waving flag.

To achieve the feat, the students collaborated with NID Foundation to make the Guinness World Record. Union Minister of State (Culture) Meenakshi Lekhi participated in the “historic” event, which took place in the presence of Governor Banwarilal Purohit at the cricket stadium in Chandigarh sector 16.

Ecstatic about the news, Lekhi shared snippets from the event. In the bright visuals, the stadium turned into the colours of the Indian flag.

Lekhi said, “Proud moment for India. Elated to share that India has made the Guinness World Record for making the Largest Human Image of a Waving Flag in the presence of Hon Governor Sh Banwarilal Purohit Ji at Cricket Stadium, Chandigarh.”

In another tweet, she wrote, “Happy to be part of these historic celebrations which has given wings to the #HarGharTiranga campaign. Today was a great collective effort by the students of @Chandigarh_uni. The nationwide enthusiasm of the young ones towards #HarGharTiranga is admirable.”

The official Instagram handle of Chandigarh University, too, shared pictures of the event for its followers with the caption, “The momentous day of our Guinness World Records Title attempt has begun with CU‘s sportspeople carrying out a flag walk with the Tiranga in their hands. Here are the scenes!”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday lauded the “amazing response” to the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign and said that he was “overjoyed and proud.”

“Overjoyed and proud of the amazing response to the Har Ghar Tiranga movement. We are seeing record participation from people across different walks of life. This is a great way to mark Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,” PM Modi tweeted.

The Union government has urged people to hoist or display tricolours in their houses from August 13 to 15 to mark the 75th anniversary of India’s independence.
