HSGMC reportedly takes over charge of two gurdwaras in Ambala

The Lakhnor Sahib Gurdwara and Mardon Sahib Gurdwara, two revered Ambala gurdwaras, were reportedly put under the management of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) on Sunday.

Recently, the committee asserted that it had assumed control of the Gurdwara Panjokhara Sahib, which is also located in Ambala.

These gurdwaras were previously managed by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).

The Haryana Sikh Gurdwara (Management) Act, 2014, under which a separate committee was constituted to oversee the business of gurdwaras in the state, was recently upheld by the Supreme Court as constitutionally valid.

Notably, the SGPC, the highest religious organisation of the Sikhs, resolved to file a review appeal against the Supreme Court ruling during its executive committee meeting held in Chandigarh more than a week ago.

As a precaution, a sizable police presence was placed close to the two gurdwaras in Ambala.

According to senior leader Jasbir Singh Khalsa and HSGMC spokesperson Sukhwinder Singh Bitta, no one complained to this action, and the managements were moved amicably.

After a long fight, the Haryana Sikh Sangat, according to Khalsa, has earned the right to oversee gurdwara operations in the state.

More than a week ago, a delegation of the HSGMC and representatives of other Sikh organisations from numerous gurudwaras throughout the state met with Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who informed them that the Supreme Court’s decision was a triumph for Sikh organisations in Haryana.

Khattar further stated that the state administration vigorously supported the creation of a separate gurdwara managing committee for Haryana before the Supreme Court while respecting the Sikhs’ emotions.
