Atishi, the Delhi minister, has been assigned additional responsibilities for the Revenue, Planning, and Finance departments. This decision came after LG V K Saxena approved the proposal for a cabinet reshuffle. Previously, these three departments were under the purview of minister Kailash Gahlot.
With the new responsibilities, Atishi, who is the only woman minister in the cabinet, now holds a total of 12 portfolios, the highest among all ministers.
“The proposal for the cabinet reshuffle has been approved by Delhi LG VK Saxena, and the file has been received by the government,” stated the official.
There was a dispute over the cabinet reshuffle on Thursday, as government officials claimed that the file had been with the Lieutenant Governor for four days, a claim that was denied by the Lieutenant Governor’s office.
Atishi, along with Saurabh Bharadwaj, joined the cabinet after the resignations of Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain following their arrests. Sisodia was arrested in connection with an excise policy case, while Jain was arrested last year in relation to a money laundering case.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday also held a review meeting with officials of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and instructed that there should be “no shortage of money” to supply clean water.
During the meeting, it was decided that the DJB will end the problem of dirty water in a few areas, use modern technology to find out pipeline leakage issues and solve it permanently.
“Arvind Kejriwal held a regular review meeting with the Delhi Jal Board today and discussed about the detailed plan for ending the problem of dirty water in some of the areas. DJB officials said that to end the problem, they will use modern technology like helium gas and cameras to identify the pipeline leakage and find a permanent solution to it,” the chief minister’s office tweeted.
