The Delhi Police has initiated legal proceedings against an Indian Air Force (IAF) officer, accusing him of sexual assault and intimidation of a 24-year-old woman, as confirmed by officials on Monday.
The FIR, registered under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), marks the commencement of an official investigation into the allegations.
The complainant, who disclosed her account to the Parliament Street police station on December 1, stated that she came into contact with a 38-year-old Wing Commander on September 23 of the previous year.
According to the FIR obtained by PTI, the complainant alleges that on November 12 of the same year, the accused Wing Commander sexually assaulted her in Delhi after making false promises of marriage. The complainant expressed her distress, asserting that despite her protests against engaging in a physical relationship before marriage, the accused persisted. She further revealed that he took her to his residence, where she also met his parents.
The complainant disclosed to the police that the accused had deceived her regarding his marital status and family background. The truth unraveled for her on November 6 when she discovered photographs of the accused with another woman and two children on social media. Attempts to contact the accused and his family proved futile, leading her to visit his residence in Ambala on November 16, where she alleges he raped her once again and issued threats of severe consequences.
A police officer confirmed the filing of the FIR and the initiation of an investigation into the matter. The accused IAF officer is reportedly cooperating with the probe, as indicated by a PRO (Defence) at Palam. The authorities are actively addressing the serious allegations made by the complainant.
