A resident of Noida has tested positive for Covid-19, marking the first case of infection in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar in several months, according to officials.
The patient is a 54-year-old male who resides in Noida but works at a multinational company in Gurugram, as stated by Gautam Buddh Nagar Chief Medical Officer Dr Sunil Sharma on Thursday.
Dr Sharma mentioned that the patient’s test sample has been sent to Delhi for genome sequencing, and the results are eagerly awaited. Providing additional details, District Surveillance Officer and public healthcare expert Dr Amit Kumar revealed that the patient had traveled to Nepal earlier this month and subsequently went to work at his Gurugram office upon returning.
Despite being asymptomatic, the patient voluntarily sought a Covid-19 test, as stated by Dr Kumar. This case stands as the only confirmed instance of Covid-19 in Gautam Buddh Nagar thus far.
Dr Sharma highlighted a decline in virus testing in the district this year and urged people to get tested at primary and community health centers along with the district hospital.
Emphasising the ongoing need for caution, Dr Kumar from the healthcare department urged residents to follow Covid-appropriate measures. These include thorough handwashing, maintaining social distance, using alcohol-based sanitizers, and wearing face masks when outdoors.
The healthcare department remains concerned about the potential resurgence of infections and stresses the importance of individual responsibility in preventing the spread of the virus.
