A musical tribute
What: Immerse yourself in an evening of dance and music with Jashn-e-Talat, a multi-performance tribute to Bollywood legend Talat Mahmood. Marking the 20th year of his death anniversary, his grandniece — artist and TV personality Sahar Zaman, will be performing at the celebration. The multi-disciplinary show includes performances by popular ghazal singer Rashmi Agarwal and Kathak exponent Shovana Narayan, along with a narration on his life by theatre veteran Sohaila Kapur. Portrait artist Anubhav Som will paint a portrait of Talat Mahmood live on stage.

Art for a cause
What: Here’s an art exhibition that lets you take home exquisite art work and also gives you the opportunity to change lives. Art with Heart by Threshold Art Gallery brings together works of 40 artists. While many of them are established modern and contemporary artists, some are mid-career artists and a few emerging ones as well. The exhibition’s net proceeds will be used in Freedom through Education, Community Service Project. The collection includes drawings, works on paper, serigraphs and etchings, along with canvases and sculptures. Encapsulating ideas of beauty, tradition and modernity, the works range from figuration to abstraction in a variety of mediums and formats.

Litfest for kids
What: Completing a decade, Bookaroo Festival of Children’s Literature is back with its 11th edition. India’s first children’s literature festival set up in 2008 by a loose collective of book lovers, the festival has spread its wings across 12 cities in India and one overseas. Bookaroo became India’s most-travelled festival and aims to give every child an opportunity to fall in love with stories, books and art. This edition will have 70 speakers from 13 countries with 105 sessions. There will be unique sessions with illustrators and storytellers, set as per the age of the child, making it a paradise for children.

A grandeur twist
What: Here’s an adaptation of Shakespeare’s King Lear with a twist. Performing it in Kathakali theatre at the Delhi International Art Festival, Kathakali-King Lear gives Shakespeare a new language. The challenge for any production of King Lear is to find a theatrical expression for its explosive power. Kathakali’s rich means of expression creates the dimension and power that the play requires.
