Delhi: Delhiites experienced a much-needed break from the hot and humid weather as heavy rain hit the city on Wednesday evening, bringing the maximum temperature down to 37.8 degrees Celsius.
On Tuesday, the national capital recorded its highest maximum temperature for July this year, with the mercury reaching 39.3 degrees Celsius, five degrees above the season’s normal.
“Moderate rainfall accompanied by moderate thunderstorms and lightning is expected to occur in North and Central Delhi, New Delhi, South Delhi, South-East Delhi, East Delhi, and the NCR within the next two hours,” the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) announced in the evening.

According to the IMD, the humidity level was recorded at 63 per cent at 5:30 PM. The city experienced a minimum temperature of 30.4 degrees Celsius, 3.3 degrees above the season’s normal, in the morning.
The IMD has forecasted that the rainy weather will persist until August 5.
However, the rainfall also led to significant waterlogging and traffic disruptions across the city.
