Civil defence volunteers, who were terminated as bus marshals in October 2023, will be assigned pollution mitigation duties for four months, following an order by Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena, officials announced on Thursday.
Their employment will commence on November 1, according to the officials.
The lieutenant governor, who also serves as the chairman of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, has advised the city government and the chief minister to develop a formal plan, adhering to due process, for their continued engagement after the four-month period, a Raj Niwas official stated.
The plan, to be formulated by the Delhi government for the regular employment of these civil defence volunteers, will outline details such as deployment, budget allocation, financial approvals, creation of posts, and reservation policies, the official added.
