A thunderstorm accompanied by rain is expected to hit the national capital on Friday, according to the latest forecast from the weather office. Residents of Delhi should prepare for wet conditions as the city braces for this change in weather.

On Thursday, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 26.2 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 35 degrees Celsius during the day, remaining within the normal range for this time of year. At 8:30 AM, the relative humidity was measured at 80 percent, indicating high moisture levels in the atmosphere. Additionally, the city received a trace amount of rainfall — just 0.1 mm — in the past 24 hours.

Despite the humid conditions, Delhi’s air quality remained in the “satisfactory” category, offering some respite to residents. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 98. The AQI is a composite measure that reflects the concentration of major air pollutants.

The CPCB categorizes AQI readings as follows: 0–50 is classified as “good,” 51–100 as “satisfactory,” 101–200 as “moderate,” 201–300 as “poor,” 301–400 as “very poor,” and 401–500 as “severe.” An AQI of 98, while not ideal, suggests that the air quality is acceptable for most individuals, although sensitive groups may still experience minor discomfort.

With a thunderstorm on the horizon and high humidity levels, Delhi residents are advised to plan accordingly. The upcoming rain may also offer temporary relief from both the heat and pollution, though commuters should expect disruptions and localized waterlogging in low-lying areas.
