Smiti Iyer’s Bharatanatyam Arangetram marks her formal debut, showcasing years of training under Guru Dr Rajeshwari Menon with live orchestral support

Krishnanjali Centre for Performing Arts will present a Bharatanatyam Arangetram by young dancer Smiti Iyer on April 12 at Karthiayani Socio Cultural Complex, Mayur Vihar Phase 1. The performance marks the formal debut of the disciple of Guru Dr Rajeshwari Menon.

Smiti Iyer, daughter of Gowri and Ashok Swaminathan, has been training under the guidance of Dr Rajeshwari Menon, founder-director of the Krishnanjali Centre for Performing Arts. The Arangetram, a significant milestone in a Bharatanatyam dancer’s journey, reflects years of rigorous training and practice.

The recital will be supported by a live orchestra, with Dr Rajeshwari Menon on natuvangam, Guru Elangovan Govindrajan on vocal, Taal-Mani P Vetriboopathy on mridangam, Raghuraman Govindrajan on flute, and Delhi R Sridhar on violin. The ensemble will accompany the dancer through a traditional repertoire showcasing technique, expression, and rhythm.

The event is open to all on a first-come, first-served basis.
