Labourer electrocuted after allegedly coming in contact with live iron railing near west Delhi park; probe underway into possible electrical leakage and negligence

A 26-year-old labourer died after allegedly suffering an electric shock from an iron railing at a park in Punjabi Bagh area of Delhi, police said on Sunday.

The deceased, Rohit, a resident of Rajiv Gandhi Camp, had gone to drink water from a tap near the wall of a park when the incident took place, they said.

“During the process, he allegedly came in contact with an electrified iron railing and suffered a severe electric shock,” the officer said.

Police said Rohit collapsed and was rushed for medical assistance, where doctors declared him dead.

A case has been registered at Punjabi Bagh police station and an investigation has been initiated, the officer said.

Police are probing how the railing became electrically charged and whether there was any leakage of current from nearby wiring or electrical infrastructure in the park area.

Investigators are also examining whether negligence in maintenance of electrical fittings or illegal wiring could have led to the incident, police said.

The spot was inspected by police and technical teams, and authorities are expected to examine the electrical connections installed near the park and water tap, they said.

The exact cause of the electrocution will be ascertained after technical examination and further investigation, they said.
