Delhi Police destroyed 1,452 kg of seized narcotics worth an estimated Rs 897 crore, including methamphetamine, heroin and other drugs

The Delhi Police on Monday destroyed 1,452 kg of seized narcotic drugs valued at Rs 897 crore in the international market, an official said.

According to the police, the 10th mega drug destruction programme was conducted at a waste disposal facility on GT Karnal Road in the presence of Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) H G S Dhaliwal and other senior officers.

The destroyed contraband included around 1,010 kg of methamphetamine, 135 kg of heroin, 62 kg of charas, 37 kg of ganja, 16 kg of methaqualone, 91 kg of poppy straw, 70 kg of phenylpropanone, more than 15 lakh tramadol tablets, over 36,000 bottles of codeine syrup and other psychotropic substances seized in various cases, the police said.

With the latest destruction, the Delhi Police has disposed of around 49,663 kg of narcotics worth an estimated Rs 14,799 crore in the international market through 10 such drives conducted since December 2022, they said.

Addressing the programme, Dhaliwal said the exercise was aimed not only at destroying seized drugs but also at dismantling the ecosystem of narcotics trafficking.
