Gold and diamond jewellery worth more than Rs 2 crore was stolen from the parked car belonging to a jeweller from Jaipur in Karol Bagh area of Delhi, police said.
The incident took place on August 19 when Kanhaiya Lal, a Jaipur-based jeweller and the owner of SKG Kundan Crafts, came to Delhi for marketing work with his son Dhruv Soni and a staff member, they said.
Lal had three backpacks and a suitcase in his car. The backpacks contained gold and diamond jewellery and a laptop, while the suitcase contained clothes.
“Lal visited several jewellery dealers in the Greater Kailash area and later reached Karol Bagh,” a senior police officer said.
At around 5.30 pm, he parked the car on Arya Samaj Road. They reportedly left the bags in the car and went to a nearby Bikanervala restaurant, the officer said.
When they returned at 7.15 pm, they found the car’s rear window smashed and the backpacks and the suitcase missing.
On being informed, teams from the Karol Bagh police station reached the spot and scanned CCTV camera footage from the surrounding areas.
“Two suspects wearing helmets and riding a motorcycle were identified. The motorcycle was subsequently traced and its registered owner, along with his two brothers, have been detained for questioning,” the officer said.
Efforts are underway to arrest the accused and recover the stolen jewellery, he said.
