MCD steps up its citywide enforcement drive against unsafe buildings and unauthorised constructions, with over 200 demolitions recorded since September 1

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Sunday carried out 11 demolition actions and sealed four properties as its crackdown on dangerous buildings and unauthorised constructions continued across the national capital.

With Sunday’s action, the civic body has carried out 213 demolitions and sealed 109 properties since September 1, officials said.

The action was undertaken at various locations across the MCD’s 12 zones.

Demolition action was carried out in Bijwasan in the South West Zone, Dilshad Colony and Dilshad Garden in the North East Zone, and several areas under the Old Delhi Zone. Properties were also sealed in the East and Old Delhi zones, they said.

The civic body had carried out 33 demolition actions and sealed five properties on Saturday as part of the ongoing enforcement drive.

The drive has been intensified following the September 6 collapse of a building housing a paying guest accommodation in Satya Niketan that killed seven people.

As part of the wider exercise, the MCD is also conducting a field survey of paying guest (PG) accommodation buildings across Delhi to create a database and decide on further action. So far, around 2,114 buildings operating PG facilities have been identified, officials said.

The MCD said action against dangerous and unauthorised buildings and other violations of the Master Plan of Delhi and building bye-laws would continue across all 12 zones.
