The Delhi Metro deployed more than 40 additional staff and operationalised around 17 ticket office machines across its network to manage the passenger rush amid an ongoing DTC bus drivers’ strike, the corporation said .
The strike by Delhi Transport Department bus drivers began on September 16 and has continued since then, with the protesting drivers demanding a wage hike and medical facilities.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been progressively increasing services since September 16. On that day, eight additional trains were operated along with 20 extra trips across the network, the corporation said.
The metro also recorded its highest-ever passenger boardings on September 17, with 82,44,903 boardings in a single day. This surpassed the previous record of 81,87,674 passenger journeys recorded on August 8, 2025.
On September 17, eight additional trains and 32 extra trips were operated. As passenger demand remained high, the number of extra trips was increased to 38 on September 18, 50 on September 19 and 43 on September 20, with eight additional trains operated on each of these days, it said.
On Monday, 10 additional trains and 44 extra trips were operated, while 10 additional trains and 39 extra trips were operated on Tuesday, according to the DMRC.

The additional ticketing arrangements and train services have been deployed to accommodate increased passenger demand, particularly during peak hours, and facilitate smoother movement of commuters, the corporation said.
The DMRC added that the measures were aimed at ensuring safe, reliable and efficient metro services and convenient travel for lakhs of commuters.
