A 22-year-old e-commerce delivery rider was killed after a speeding Delhi Transport Corporation electric bus allegedly rammed his motorcycle in Punjabi Bagh on Wednesday morning here, officials said.
The incident, which took place near Ashoka Park Metro station on Rohtak Road, west Delhi, when Sonu was on his way to deliver an order, triggered protests by residents and delivery riders who blocked the road and vandalised the bus, police said.
They said a large crowd gathered at the spot and refused to allow police to take away the body. The protesters also blocked the carriageway from Punjabi Bagh towards Zakhira, disrupting traffic in the area, police said.
The traffic police issued an advisory, asking commuters to avoid the stretch and take alternate routes. Traffic personnel were deployed on the spot to regulate vehicle movement.

The deceased’s relative alleged that Sonu was on his way to deliver an order when the DTC bus hit him from behind. “This has happened before as well in this area. Officials said the CCTV camera doesn’t work. They have not done any justice. Then what is the government doing?” he told PTI.
Police said they received a PCR call about the road accident at Punjabi Bagh police station around 7:23 am, after which the investigating officer reached the spot.
Sonu, a resident of Indira Colony in Punjabi Bagh, lived with his family in a jhuggi in the area. His father, Bharat, works as a butcher, his mother is a homemaker, and his 17-year-old younger brother, Vikas, works as a delivery boy, a senior police officer said.
Police are examining CCTV footage to identify and trace the bus involved in the accident. Further legal proceedings are underway, police said.
DTC officials did not immediately react to the incident.
