A lot of events happening in central Delhi at once has led to the traffic coming to a halt. On Thursday morning, traffic crawled in the area due to Congress protest and the Kanwar Yatra along with waterlogging on arterial stretches.
A call to protest outside the Raj Bhawan was made by the Congress on Wednesday along with a march towards the Enforcement Directorate office regarding the National Herald case. This has also led to the blocking of key stretches by the Delhi Traffic Police in central Delhi.
The traffic was also hampered at several key stretches that connect the central part of the national capital with the rest of the city and also the satellite towns of Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad.
Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Bhairon Marg-Ring Road junction, ITO, Vikas Marg, Delhi-Noida Direct Flyway, Sarai Kale Khan, India Gate circle, Dhaula Kuan, Rohtak Road, Barapullah elevated corridor and Aurobindo Marg are some of the roads that witnessed heavy traffic.
The traffic police took to Twitter to inform commuters about traffic restrictions on various routes and advised them to plan their journey accordingly.
The traffic police wrote in a tweet to avoid Motilal Nehru Marg, Akbar Road, Janpath and Man Singh Road between 0900 hrs and 1400 hrs on Thursday. “Due to special arrangements, traffic movement will not be possible on these roads”, the tweet stated.
It also stated that the movement of buses (inward) will also be restricted beyond the Gol Dak Khana junction, Patel Chowk, Windsor Place, Teen Murti Chowk and Prithviraj Road
Gol Methi junction, Tughlak Road Junction, Claridges Junction, Q-point Junction, Sunehri Masjid Junction, Maulana Azad Road Junction and Man Singh Road Junction between 0900 hrs and 1400 hrs are also to be avoided, the tweet said.
Another reason that slowed down the traffic was waterlogging.
