The Delhi Government has issued a cautionary advisory in light of the rainy season, warning the public about an increased risk of water-borne diseases, including diarrhoea, dysentery, and cholera. The advisory emphasises certain dos and don’ts to safeguard against these health risks during the monsoon.

Water-borne diseases are primarily transmitted through contaminated water, ice, and food. To prevent infection, the advisory advises residents to opt for home-cooked fresh meals, maintain proper personal hygiene, use oral rehydration solutions (ORS) to avoid dehydration, and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms like vomiting, jaundice, or fever.

On the other hand, the advisory urges people to refrain from consuming uncooked food from roadside vendors, such as cut-fruits. Additionally, it strongly advises against open urination and defecation.

The authorities also raised concerns about the recent flooding in parts of Delhi, warning of the potential for the spread of water-borne and vector-borne diseases in the aftermath. (With inputs from PTI)
