Delhi Polls: A case has been filed against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Amanatullah Khan for allegedly breaching the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) ahead of the Delhi assembly elections. Khan, the current MLA for Okhla, was reportedly seen campaigning with over 100 supporters in Zakir Nagar on Tuesday night, prompting the legal action.
The case was registered under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which addresses penalties for defying public servants’ orders, and Section 126 of The Representation of the People Act, 1951, which prohibits public gatherings within 48 hours of the election’s conclusion. Khan, who has a record of facing multiple criminal cases, is one of the prominent figures entangled in legal controversies during the election season.
Additionally, cases have been filed against AAP MLA Dinesh Mohaniya, accused of making inappropriate gestures towards a BJP woman worker, and members of fellow AAP leader Ajay Dutt’s family, who allegedly assaulted a BJP worker. Another MCC-related case was filed against Delhi Chief Minister Atishi for her conduct in Kalkaji.
Police reports indicate that Atishi, accompanied by AAP supporters, interfered with an officer’s duties on Fateh Singh Marg, while two AAP members were also charged with assaulting a police constable.

Atishi responded to the accusations on social media, criticizing the Election Commission for its action against her. She alleged that her BJP rival in Kalkaji, Ramesh Bidhuri, and his family had engaged in “hooliganism” without facing any consequences, accusing the Commission of bias.
In a rebuttal, Bidhuri suggested that Atishi was simply trying to divert attention from her impending loss and advised her not to undermine the dignity of her constitutional role.
As the election for Delhi’s 70 assembly seats continues, it remains a closely contested battle between the AAP, BJP, and Congress. The AAP, led by Arvind Kejriwal, has dominated the last two elections but faces corruption allegations related to a now-defunct liquor policy. The BJP, aiming to reclaim the capital after over 25 years, is heavily relying on large rallies featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Meanwhile, the Congress, which ruled Delhi for 15 years before 2013, is hopeful for a comeback.
