Delhi Weather: Delhi is expected to experience a fresh spell of heatwave conditions from Thursday to Saturday, with temperatures predicted to range between 41°C and 43°C, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). A yellow alert has been issued, urging residents to stay aware and take precautions during this period of extreme heat.

After a slight dip in temperatures on Tuesday, when the mercury dropped to 39.9°C—still two degrees above the seasonal average—temperatures are expected to rise steadily from Wednesday onwards. The IMD forecasts that Delhi’s maximum temperature could climb by 2–3 degrees over the next five days, peaking between April 24 and 26. These levels would place the mercury 2–4 degrees above normal for this time of year.

The minimum temperature on Tuesday stood at 20.9°C, slightly below normal, but the upcoming rise in maximum temperature has prompted health advisories from the weather department.

The IMD warns of moderate health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups such as infants, the elderly, and individuals with chronic illnesses. To cope with the soaring temperatures, people are advised to avoid direct sun exposure, wear light-coloured and loose-fitting cotton clothes, stay hydrated, and protect their heads with a hat, cloth, or umbrella.

Delhi had already endured a heatwave earlier this month from April 7 to 9, when temperatures consistently remained above 40°C. With another intense spell approaching, residents are urged to remain cautious and take preventive measures to avoid heat-related illnesses.

As summer intensifies, the capital prepares to battle rising mercury levels once again, with authorities closely monitoring the situation and urging public cooperation.
