Delhi’s per capita income surged by 22 percent over two years to reach Rs 4.61 lakh in 2023-24, as revealed by the latest Economic Survey presented by the state’s finance minister, Atishi, on Friday.
Despite facing challenges in governance, Delhi experienced a notable increase in per capita income, Atishi said while presenting the survey in the state assembly. She also announced that the state budget for the financial year 2024-25 would be presented before the Assembly on March 4.
Detailing further, she disclosed that Delhi’s GSDP (gross state domestic product) at current prices during 2023-24 is expected to hit Rs 11,07,746 crore, marking a growth of 9.17 percent from 2022-23. This was up from Rs 10.14 crore in 2022-23.
She highlighted that post-Covid, Delhi’s real GSDP grew at 8.76 percent in 2021-22 and 7.85 percent in 2022-23, outpacing the national growth rate.
Delhi’s population represents 1.5 percent of India’s total population, while its GSDP contributes nearly 3.9 percent to India’s GDP, she added.
Furthermore, she noted that Delhi’s inflation rate stood at 2.81 percent in Jan-Dec 2023, while the national inflation rate was 5.65 percent during the same period.
Despite offering various welfare benefits like free electricity, water, healthcare, education, bus rides for women, and teerth yatras for the elderly, Delhi maintains a growing economy with a revenue surplus, the minister emphasised.(With Inputs from PTI)
