DU opens UG admission registration for 2026-27 academic session; second phase to open next week

The race for more than 71,000 undergraduate seats at the University of Delhi (DU) has begun with the university opening its first phase of registrations for admission for the 2026-27 academic session, triggering excitement and anxiety among aspirants awaiting a place in one of the country’s premier institutions.

The Delhi University has commenced Phase I of admission — registrations under the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) for candidates who appeared in the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) 2026 and are seeking admission to its undergraduate programmes.

“The registrations have been opened in the first phase. The second phase will definitely be opened by next week,” Dean of Admissions Haneet Gandhi told PTI.

She confirmed that around 71,600 undergraduate seats are available across the university’s colleges this year.

Admissions to 73 undergraduate programmes and more than 100 BA programme combinations offered across 67 colleges will be based solely on CUET-UG 2026 scores, subject to programme-specific eligibility criteria.

Candidates can register on the CSAS portal using only their CUET-UG 2026 application number. The university said candidates’ essential details, including name, date of birth, photograph and signature have been auto-integrated through the Government of India’s API Setu to minimise data-entry errors and enhance security.

The university has prescribed a one-time, non-refundable registration fee of Rs 250 for candidates belonging to the unreserved, OBC-NCL and EWS categories, and Rs 100 for SC, ST and PwBD candidates.

After completing Phase I, candidates will have to participate in Phase II, during which they will map their CUET test papers with the subjects studied in Class 12 and submit their preferences for programmes and college combinations.

The university will determine candidates’ eligibility based on this subject mapping before preparing allocations. The schedule for Phase II will be announced shortly.

As registrations got underway, aspirants said they were hopeful but anxious about securing admission to their preferred colleges.

Aniket, a Delhi-based aspirant who goes by his first name, said Political Science was his preferred course and Hindu College topped his list of choices.

“My CUET score is good, so I’m hopeful. But I’m still very nervous about whether I’ll get my first preference. Everyone wants the top colleges, so there’s always uncertainty,” he said.

The university has advised candidates to read the Undergraduate Bulletin of Information and CSAS (UG) 2026-27 guidelines carefully before completing the registration process and to regularly check the admission portal for further announcements.
