Election Results 2024: An upbeat atmosphere prevailed at Congress party’s headquarters in New Delhi on Tuesday following nationwide results even though the party failed to open its account in the national capital.
Party workers and supporters had gathered in droves at the headquarter office in the morning while Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) office wore a deserted look. Those present at the headquarters were seen carrying party flag and chanting slogans in favour of Rahul Gandhi.
Scores of supporters were seen watching the poll results on LCD screens inside the premises.
“Around 12 LED screens have been installed to watch the results,” said a Congress worker.
Cooks were preparing Chhole Bhature for workers and guests who had come there.
“We have received an order for 700 people. The order may increase depending on the need,” said Ranbeer Singh, a cook at the party office.
Lunch, which included Chawal, Dal and Sabzi, was also being served among workers and other guests.
As the Congress started showing improvement in poll results, sweets were distributed among workers and others.
A group of women were seen dancing over dhols and singing songs in favour of Rahul Gandhi. A few other male workers danced on the beats of drums, cherishing the upward trends in the counting of votes.
A few supporters were seen carrying the banner which read ‘old time is coming back’. They were citing the example of a gas cylinder — how its price has gone up to more than Rs 1,000 and Congress government can bring it back to Rs 400.
Tanu, a worker of Rahul Priyanka Gandhi Sena, said it was a proud moment for them.
“It was all possible because of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra and we are hopeful our leader will form the government,” she said.
Sandeep Mishra, another worker, said, “It is the election of hope. It is the election for the justice of those sisters who were raped in Manipur, about issues of farmers, jobs and fake schemes like Agniveer.”
Alok Sharma, national spokesperson of Indian National Congress, said, “Truth has won today and it is a great achievement for the party.”
Laxman Valhekar, a resident of Maharashtra and a worker of the Congress party, said he was part of Bharat Jodo Yatra from Manipur to Mumbai. “I am barefoot and will not wear anything till Rahul Gandhi wins elections,” he said.
Many senior Congress leaders and former MPs visited the party headquarters to express solidarity with the party workers and supporters.
Congress leader and former external affairs minister Salman Khurshid, former Congress MP Abhishek Singhvi and others visited the office.
Khurshid while speaking to the media said, “Those who had said that we (Congress) will not cross the 50-seat mark, tell them that it has already happened and now we will see if that number reaches 290. We had told earlier that we will try to achieve it (majority).”
At 5.30 in the evening, when Rahul Gandhi entered the party office to address a press conference, he was mobbed as drums and dances gathered pace. He was taken to the conference hall under tight security.
Some area inside the headquarter was barricaded by his security personnel and no one was allowed to enter the office building.

The gathering was so huge that he had to be taken out from another gate as workers blocked the premises area to get a glimpse of him.
Despite Gandhi leaving the spot, Congress supporters continued dancing on the beats of drums.
