According to the India Monthly Report that the social media giant Meta issued on Thursday, action against more than 2.29 crore pieces of content posted by Indian users on Facebook and Instagram was taken in November.
As per the report, the company took action on more than 1.95 billion pieces of content on Facebook and 33.9 lakh pieces of content on Instagram.
On Facebook alone, the corporation removed around 1.49 crore spam content, followed by 18 lakh posts concerning “Adult Nudity and Sexual Activity,” 12 lakh content pertaining to “Violent and Graphic Content,” etc.
On Instagram, Meta removed 10 lakh posts relating to self-harm and suicide, 7.27 lakh posts relating to violence, 7.12 lakh posts relating to adult sex and nudity, 4.84 lakh posts relating to bullying or harassment, 2.25 lakh posts promoting “violence and incitement,” and other posts that broke its guidelines.
Of the 2,368 complaints the social media giant received under the IT Rules of 2021, 939 were by Instagram users for an account being hacked, 891 for fake profile, 136 for bullying or harassment, 94 for content showing the user in nudity or partial nudity or in a sexual act etc.
“Of these incoming reports, we provided tools for users to resolve their issues in 1,124 cases,” Meta said.
Besides 555 complaints of fake profiles, Meta took action on 253 complaints for accounts being hacked, 31 on bullying or harassment, 30 on content showing the user in nudity or partial nudity or in a sexual act.
According to the IT Rules of 2021, the social media company received 889 complaints on Facebook, and in 511 of those cases it gave users the tools they needed to fix the problems.
According to the report, Facebook users primarily expressed concern about their accounts being hacked, followed by lost access to pages they maintained, bullying or harassment, and content showing people in nudity or partial nudity or in a sexual act. The business addressed every user complaint regarding losing access to pages.
According to the study, however, it only responded to 73 complaints about fake profiles, 40 about hacked accounts, 29 about bullying or harassment, and only 17 about content that showed the user in nudity or partial nudity or in a sexual act.
