The mercury dipped to a low of 10.8 degrees Celsius, two notches below the seasonal average, in Delhi on Friday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Humidity levels soared to 96 percent, adding to the chill in the air.
IMD forecasts partly cloudy skies with a chance of very light rain throughout the day.
“An active western disturbance is expected to impact the region. Starting from the night of Friday, March 1, there may be light weather activity with occasional spells of very light rain. However, the major impact is anticipated on March 2, with the likelihood of thunderstorms, strong winds, and light to moderate rain. By March 3, these effects are expected to dissipate. Cloud cover might cause a rise in the minimum temperature, although a significant drop is expected around March 2,” an official from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 180 in the ‘moderate’ category at 9 am, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
The AQI scale categorizes air quality as follows: ‘good’ (0-50), ‘satisfactory’ (51-100), ‘moderate’ (101-200), ‘poor’ (201-300), ‘very poor’ (301-400), and ‘severe’ (401-500). (With inputs from PTI)
