An official statement said that Kailash Gahlot opened a new Anganwadi centre in Najafgarh that will provide a range of services to improve the nutritional and health status of kids, pregnant women, and nursing mothers.
More than 600 residents from the marginalised populations in this area, including 60 children and 15 women, have already been enrolled, it claimed.
According to the statement, Anganwadi employees and assistants have been conducting surveys to find more such women and children to bring to the recently opened Anganwadi centre.
As per the statement, the centre would also support and encourage the formation of self-help groups (SHGs) by the local women.
“The Delhi government is committed to ensure that any woman in distress or any child in a vulnerable condition is identified, attended and taken into safety nets, through the robust network of Anganwadi centres in Delhi. District offices have been directed to identify vulnerable children through Anganwadis and link them to child protection services”, Gahlot stated.
According to the statement, Delhi has 1,0897 Anganwadi facilities operating under 95 programmes, serving eight lakh registered women and children who are eligible for supplementary nourishment.
“A systemic change in the existing supply of supplementary nutrition will also take place shortly as the Expressions of Interest (EOI) have been invited from the SHGs and Resource Organisations. Through efficient delivery and enhanced monitoring of the services, we are committed to provide nutritional food to the beneficiaries at Anganwadi centres”, Gahlot said.
Additionally, he instructed the concerned officials to connect women to Saheli Samanvay Kendras for their economic empowerment and upskilling and to make use of the financial support programmes that are available for women and children in need of these services.
