Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has granted approval for the allocation of five acres of land in Okhla to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for the establishment of solid waste management facilities, according to officials from Raj Niwas on Tuesday.
With the LG’s nod, aimed at bolstering the city’s waste management infrastructure, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will oversee the transfer of lease rights and possession of five acres within the original 20-acre land parcel, as stated by the officials.
Initially, the 20-acre land parcel was assigned to the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on a perpetual lease basis. This transfer will adhere to the provisions outlined in the Master Plan for Delhi 2021 (MPD-2021), the officials noted.
“The MCD commissioner’s request for the land allocation to DDA’s vice-chairman was made on October 10 of the previous year. The LG’s approval emphasizes that the MCD must adhere to all the terms and conditions outlined in the Demand-cum-Allotment letters issued by DDA to NDMC, as well as the lease deeds executed with NDMC,” an official explained.
The five-acre land parcel allocated to the MCD includes existing structures like an administrative block, workshop, staff quarters, and a park, which will contribute to cost savings for the MCD in its development endeavors.
Officials also highlighted that the LG has consistently advocated for streamlined land allotments for developmental and infrastructure projects in Delhi, ensuring that bureaucracy and delays do not hinder progress.
In recent times, the DDA has allocated 18 land parcels to the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) for various initiatives, including the construction of sewage treatment plants and water treatment facilities.
