Delhi: Doctors at Max Smart Super Specialty Hospital, Saket, have achieved a significant milestone by performing India’s first Total Hip Replacement surgery using the advanced INSIGNIA STEM implant.

According to an official from the hospital, the pioneering surgeries were performed on two elderly patients with complex health conditions. “One patient, aged 73, was admitted with a fractured right hip and a history of Parkinson’s disease and psychosis, requiring a highly personalised treatment approach. The other, a 69-year-old, was suffering from advanced avascular necrosis, leading to severe pain and restricted mobility,” the official stated.

The orthopaedic team, led by Dr Ramneek Mahajan, Senior Director of Orthopaedics and Joint Replacement, stabilised both patients and chose the INSIGNIA STEM implant for its superior design, which addresses the unique challenges of elderly patients with multiple comorbidities.

The INSIGNIA STEM implant is designed for optimal customisation, fit, and fixation. Using advanced surgical techniques, the implant provides better long-term outcomes and enables faster recovery compared to conventional implants.

Speaking to Patriot, Dr Mahajan expressed satisfaction with the outcomes. “Life is mobility, and mobility is life. The INSIGNIA STEM implant offers a game-changing solution with enhanced durability, customisable fit, and quicker recovery for patients. Both patients responded remarkably well to the treatment and were discharged with stable vitals, improved mobility, and no postoperative complications,” he said.

The hospital reported that both patients have resumed basic physical activities and are on track for a full recovery.

Max Healthcare has consistently introduced cutting-edge technologies in India. From pioneering the use of the Triathlon Knee to performing MAKO robotic surgeries in Delhi, the introduction of the INSIGNIA STEM implant further cements its leadership in advanced orthopaedic care.

The INSIGNIA STEM implant is specifically tailored to meet the needs of patients with challenging conditions, significantly improving their quality of life. With its focus on precision and durability, it is expected to set a new benchmark for hip replacement surgeries across the country.
