Shades of grey

What: Gallery Blueprint 12 is all set to launch their new gallery space with Vipekha Gupta’s first solo show titled ‘Oscillations’. Over the years, Vipeksha has worked on themes inspired by her meditative practices, mostly Vipassana.  Known for her monochrome and grey meditative drawings, Vipeksha’s works are schematic capturing the process of metamorphosis that begins with the awakening of the soul. The works stem from the idea that everything that arises in the mind flows along with sensations.  As we practise the observation of sensations at the experiential level, we become aware that the underlying reality of the world and of ourselves consists of moments of arising and passing away built by the sensations.

When: 28 January – 10 February

Where: Blueprint12, C-66 Anand Niketan

Pandemic tales

What: Drawing on its remarkable collection and display of modern Indian art, Gallery 1000A has brought a show themed on transitioning through life and experiences of all living creatures. The show titled ‘TRAN-SITION- A Visual Story’ is a work of the duo Bino Varghese and Nupur Kundu. Exploring a mélange of themes set from the year of change, 2020, the works in this collection cite interpretations of the present and past situations of the surrounding society and the world. Binoy’s works reflect the daily lives of the common people, especially women, using earthy elements and nature. The idea is to highlight the struggles of the voiceless and perhaps the marginalised, embody a spirit of courage, and overcome internal struggles. Nupur’s works highlight her work during the lockdown period of 2021. Titled #QuarantineScapes, they are a series of abstract landscapes – a view into the fearless future and a virus-free environment.

When: 8 January – 20 February (11 am – 7 pm)

Where: Gallery 1000A, Lado Sarai

Metaphors of life

What: Chameli Ramachandran has always nurtured an immersive and entrancing relationship with nature, which repeatedly strikes an impulse to paint the skeletal and spiritual structures of flowers over and over again. Her long-awaited solo exhibition ‘Flowers Bloom, Flowers Wither Away, Flowers Bloom Again’ Ramachandran expands her symbolic vocabulary of the flower and its parts by viewing them as metaphors for life and death. She notes their sudden budding as a celebratory arrival of beauty, grace and fragrance, only to wilt shortly thereafter. As Ella Datta writes, “She dwells on this image while remembering a song by Rabindranath Tagore, which says that in spite of sorrow, death, and pangs of parting, there is also peace, joy and even eternity. For Chameli, the illness and untimely death of Anjum Singh was the cause of deep sadness. And so, the fleeting life of a blossom surfaces in a number of her paintings.”

When: 8 January – 18 February

Where: Vadehra Art Gallery D-40 Defence Colony
