What: For all the cinephiles in the city, here’s some of the best of the Dharamshala International Film Festival. Held once a year in McLeodganj in Dharmshala, it is one of the most off beat and eclectic film festivals of the country. Conceptualised by filmmakers Ritu Sarin and Tenzing Sonam of White Crane Films, it aims at bringing quality contemporary, independent Indian and World Cinema to the culturally diverse location of Dharamshala. Here’s a chance to watch some of the best films from this year’s edition right here in Delhi!

Celebrating craft
What: Dedicated to the tireless works of millions of artisans and crafts persons, here’s a day that acknowledges world craft. International Craft Day celebrates craftsman, designers, organisations and others who have dedicated their life for the development of craft sector. The aim is to bring back the essence of lost craft and folk tradition — the disappearance of which poses a great threat to the employments of millions of families across the globe. Having one genre, the world craft brings together the spirit of people, their culture and endless passion of craftsman and artisan. International Craft Day every year celebrates ‘One World, One Craft’, that transcends tradition and culture beyond boundaries to a world that is united in its timeless tradition.

Tales of tombs
What: Here’s an exhibition capturing some of the breathtaking and iconic monuments of the capital through sketches. Drawing on location and telling the story of the place from direct observation, Urban Sketchers are a team of people who come together for the love of art. Five of the regular artists from the team are exhibiting their sketches of the ‘Tombs of Delhi’. Their drawings try to show the evolution of tomb architecture through various dynasties in Delhi. Drop in to take a look at the work and meet the artists. Get the opportunity to learn the aspects of sketching including preplanning, perspective, use of water colors, materials and also get an opportunity to sketch with them.

Alice meets Krishna
What: Here’s a quirky take on Lewis Carroll’s Alice series which you have never seen before. Alice meets Humpty Dumpty and together they drop into the Mad Hatter’s tea party on the banks of the Yamuna river. Soon other people crash into the party. Kalia Nag, the very grumpy serpent king, who is infuriated by the way the Yamuna is being dirtied and polluted by humans. Even the snake queen can’t stop the fight brewing between the snake and the Wonderland creatures when suddenly Krishna joins the tea party with the melodious sound of his flute. Join in to know what happens next.

Stories for soul
What: Keeping the art of storytelling alive, here’s a performance that will take you to different parts of the world. Stage and screen actors Om, Madhurjeet Sarghi and KC Shankar will bring alive the piquant observations of Manto, the fascinations of Rajinder Singh Bedi and the wry humor of Kamleshwar through solo performances of their short stories in Ek Baar Ki Baat Hain. Join in as their stories take you through the Arab gully of South Bombay to meet the dreaded Bhai; listen to a doting grandmother worry about the marriage of her granddaughter; and visit a Kafkaesque office which is all geared to make ‘Smart Citizens’.
