A well-known story by author Sudha Murty is being brought to the stage in Delhi this weekend. The play, titled ‘K se Kahaani’, will be performed by the theatre group Storee Ki Boree at the LTG Auditorium, Mandi House, on Sunday, July 13 at 6:30 PM.

The play is based on Murty’s popular short story ‘How I Taught My Grandmother to Read’, and follows the journey of a 60-year-old woman named Vijaya who lives in a village in Karnataka. With help from her granddaughter, she decides to learn how to read. What begins as a simple summer routine turns into something much bigger — a quiet but powerful search for confidence, respect, and a new beginning.

Shraddha Gupta, the founder of Storee Ki Boree, says the story reminds us that it’s never too late to learn something new. “We want the audience to feel that it’s okay to start again, no matter your age,” she said.

She also believes that “education opens doors like no other”, a message she hopes resonates with viewers of all ages.

The play has been directed by Munish Sharma. Dialogues written by Mrinal Mathur, with Dramaturgy support by Kavitha of Vishwa Shilpi Art Consultation in Bengaluru. The play is wrapped in many emotions and the audience feels they are a part of Viji’s Household, holding everything dear to them.

Storee Ki Boree is known for making plays that focus on children, emotions, and everyday life. Over the past ten years, they have created more than 50 original plays and performed for people of all ages — from toddlers to senior citizens.

Their new play is not just about one grandmother’s story. It is also about learning, listening, and believing in yourself, no matter when you start.  Gupta says, “We want our young and old audience to connect to their roots in this fast-paced world, pause, take a breath and feel emotions”.
