Artist Epshita Chatterjee presents her solo exhibition ‘Tropical Dalliance’ from February 2 – 8 at the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society.

Epshita, a distinguished molecular biologist who has transitioned into a full-time artist, showcases the vibrant avian wonders of India and South East Asia in her latest display of work.

Drawing inspiration from her extensive travels to bird sanctuaries and national parks across the region, Epshita’s collection beautifully captures the essence of Indian birds in their natural habitats.

The series unveils striking plumage, intricate mating displays, and the unique way of life of these magnificent creatures.

The exhibition features a diverse array of birds, from heart-spotted woodpeckers engaged in a mesmerizing mating display in Thattekad, Kerala, to nesting Asian paradise flycatchers in central India. Notable pieces include the portrayal of the Himalayan Monal against Rhododendron blooms from Uttarakhand and Crimson Sunbirds amidst Chinese hat flowers from East Sikkim.

Epshita’s artistic prowess extends to a charcoal and mixed media series, where she brings attention to endangered species like the Satyr Tragopan from Shingalila National Park, Darjeeling, and the Blue bird of Paradise from Papua New Guinea engaged in an enchanting mating display.

The series also highlights the Paris Peacock butterfly, endemic to the Western Ghats.

Known for her semi-realistic and figurative style, Epshita employs various media, including charcoal on paper, dry pastel on paper, acrylic on canvas, and oil on linen. Her masterful strokes and keen attention to detail bring each bird to life, inviting viewers into the vibrant and awe-inspiring world of tropical avian wonders.

The exhibition, a celebration of the Tropics with a special focus on birds, promises a visual feast for art enthusiasts and nature aficionados.
